Lugard Gbenga Agbomoagan
International Lawyer | Hospitality Executive | Entrepreneur | Cross-Border Legal Practice Advocate | Philanthropist
Lagos, Nigeria--:--
Lugard Gbenga Agbomoagan is a Nigerian legal practitioner, entrepreneur, hospitality executive, international legal policy advocate, and philanthropist whose career bridges law, business, leadership, and social impact. He is widely recognized for advancing cross-border legal practice in Africa while simultaneously leading one of Nigeria's emerging indigenous luxury hospitality brands.
As the Founder and Lead Attorney of G. L. Agbomoagan Legal Practitioners & Consultants, he has built a multi-disciplinary law firm providing strategic legal solutions in corporate and commercial law, international law, dispute resolution, hospitality law, regulatory compliance, and cross-border transactions. His practice is distinguished by its integration of technology, international collaboration, and commercially focused legal services.
Beyond legal practice, Lugard serves as the Group Managing Director of The Jagz Hotel, an indigenous luxury hospitality brand in Nigeria. Under his leadership, the hotel has grown from a start-up into a recognized player within Nigeria’s hospitality industry through innovation, operational excellence, and customer-focused service delivery.
Internationally, Lugard has established himself as a respected voice in legal development and professional regulation. He serves as an Officer of the International Bar Association (IBA) and currently holds the position of Project Officer of the African Regional Forum, where he contributes to initiatives that strengthen legal practice and professional collaboration across Africa. He has also served as an Evaluator and Judge at the International Bar Association International Criminal Court Moot Competition in The Hague, helping to shape the next generation of international lawyers. In addition, he has spoken and served as a panelist at International Bar Association conferences on international legal practice, African legal integration, and the future of cross-border legal services.
He is one of Africa’s leading advocates for Cross-Border Legal Practice, promoting the harmonisation of legal regulations across African jurisdictions and encouraging lawyers to embrace international collaboration in line with the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Through speaking engagements, publications, and policy discussions, he continues to champion a more integrated and globally competitive African legal profession.
Committed to education and community development, Lugard founded SEND A CHILD 2 SCHOOL AFRICA, a non-profit initiative dedicated to expanding access to quality education for African children. Through the initiative, he established scholarship programmes that support students from primary education through secondary school, tertiary institutions, and postgraduate professional training at the Nigerian Law School, creating opportunities for talented young people regardless of their financial background.
Driven by a passion for humanitarian service, he also founded the Joseph & Oreoluwa Agbomoagan Foundation, a charitable organisation dedicated to caring for and improving the welfare of elderly people through support programmes, community outreach, and initiatives aimed at restoring dignity and improving the quality of life of senior citizens.
As part of his commitment to recognising excellence within the legal profession, Lugard established The Lugard Agbomoagan African Young Lawyers Excellence Awards, a pioneering initiative designed to celebrate outstanding young legal practitioners across Africa. The awards seek to recognise excellence, innovation, integrity, leadership, and contributions to the advancement of the legal profession while inspiring a new generation of African lawyers.
His passion for education has further led him to establish two academic prize awards at Ekiti State University to encourage academic excellence and reward exceptional graduating students. Through these initiatives, he continues to invest in the development of future leaders and legal professionals.
In recognition of his professional accomplishments and contributions to society, Lugard was honoured with induction into the Ekiti State University Alumni Hall of Fame, alongside the Executive Governor of Ekiti State and other distinguished alumni whose achievements have brought honour to the University.
As a mentor and public speaker, Lugard regularly addresses universities, professional associations, and international conferences on topics including legal innovation, entrepreneurship, hospitality management, leadership, international law, and Africa’s evolving legal market. He encourages young professionals to think beyond national boundaries and build globally competitive careers through excellence, innovation, and collaboration.
His leadership extends beyond his professional roles through mentorship, institutional development, philanthropy, and strategic partnerships aimed at strengthening legal education, professional capacity, and sustainable development across Africa.
What makes Lugard’s journey particularly inspiring is the path he has taken to achieve these milestones. Coming from a modest background and graduating from university with a Third Class degree, he refused to allow his circumstances or academic classification to define his future. Through determination, resilience, continuous learning, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to excellence, he has built a career that spans international legal practice, business leadership, philanthropy, and public service. His story serves as a powerful reminder that one’s beginning does not determine one’s destination, and that perseverance, vision, and hard work can overcome seemingly insurmountable barriers.
